International Trip 3 - Bangkok

We felt like Amitabh Bachchan, while travelling from Phuket to Bangkok. Not because of height but because of the famous line from the movie Kaalia - "Hum jahan khade ho jaate hain, line wahi se shuru hoti hain." Every place that we stood waiting - for the display to notify us of our flight or for a bus - a queue would form behind us like magic. We literally had to inform people that there was no queue here. Such miracles don't happen in India, so it felt good

We reached Bangkok by late evening, got a bus which cost us one fifth of what a cab would normally charge and reached Democracy Monument. Our place of stay was at a walking distance from here. Finding the place was a bit tricky, since it was in the narrow lanes or as we call it in hindi - gully. For a gully stay the place was good, though a little small when compared to what we had in Kuala Lumpur or Phuket but good.

After some refreshment we decide to hit the streets of Bangkok to grab some food. It might have been 8 pm and the shops were shutting down. For a capital to go to bed so early seemed weird but it is the way it is. The shops turned us down so we resorted to street food. A couple of sausages, sweet jackfruit and pineapple pieces, and some crisp fired chicken. Street food is cheap and tasty and when one is accustomed to street food in Mumbai one doesn't fret about bad stomach.

Roaming around the block for an hour or so, we finally found a rooftop restro that would serve us till 10pm. Surprisingly it was right next to our gully, which we realised later. It was like - bagal mein chora shehar mein dhindora. Good food, a couple of drinks and lotsa talks equals a night well spent.

Next day we rented a car to take us to Safari World. One of the best zoos I ever visited. A dolphin show, a spy show, safari, zoo and loads of fun. One of the best things to spend an entire day around Bangkok.

Later in the evening we decided to go souvenir shopping. The drive from Safari World to downtown Bangkok can get very tiring as the traffic peaks in the evening. A bit of advice in case you end up in Bangkok, always plan your trip and stick to the timings cause traffic can be a b****.

Even after having known that Thailand closes at 8, we still foolishly wasted time window shopping and hardly bought anything.

Having repeated our mistake of not finding a restro before 8, we headed back to our rooftop place and then back to our beds.

Last day we found some sort of expo being held close by. Spent some time exploring food there and by noon we were at the airport. Finally heading back to India.

1 week, 3 cities and 2 foreign countries later the trip had finally come to an end.
