Story Of Evolution - Part 3

A long time ago (soon after apes started learning to walk erect), in some (same) land far far away, the wild fire had consumed most of the resources of the Lall troop. The apes were learning to walk, as the days passed. But with the passing time also came the shortage of food.

The apes had previously relied on trees for food (Yes, the apes were vegetarians). With only few scattered trees being available there had been constant quarrels in the troop. The strong ones would bully the weaklings over it.

Grrr, Rerr, Akti and few others were facing constant shortage of food due to this inequality.

Among these was Jhol, the hungry (That was Jhol's title, so you might have guessed, why he was expelled from his previous clan). He went into the charred forest in search of something to eat. He initially picked up some berries. The fire had amazingly changed the taste. Tasting this amazing treat the fire had offered, he decided to go in further to find something more (both in terms of taste and quantity).

A few minutes later he stumbled across something that looked like an enormous but burnt jackfruit. He had a small bite off it, and it was good. So he dragged the entire thing back to the camp.

He called up almost all the apes to taste it. Everyone came in to see what Jhol had got. They started having it bit by bit, till everyone got a bite. Almost all of them liked what they had.

Now Lall came in, to divide this good food equally among all (or so Lall assumed - cause he always favored some more than the rest).

And just as Lall started digging in his fingers, blood started oozing out (yes, it wasn't jackfruit, it was meat). Looking at this every other ape started running away in panic (including Lall).

But Jhol stayed. He did not bother what he ate until it tasted good. Looking at Jhol enjoy the lavish meal, the rest of the apes were tempted. Grrr and his friends were the first one to follow Jhol and eat meat. Soon the entire troop was relishing it.

Jhol had found out an awesome food source for the troop - the meat. The troop now wandered into the burnt regions of the forest for meat.

(With the new found taste for meat, the apes had been converted from herbivores to scavangers. This was the first step to a new breed being born- The Hunters)
