Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

- William Henry Davies

This was a poem I had learnt in school, as it was in the English text book in those days. Some of you who studied this curriculum under Maharashtra State Board might or might not remember it, but I do. It has been the only poem that I remember now (excluding Nursery Rhymes). It is mainly, because the words made sense then and they still make sense now.

The life (full of leisure) that we have created and are living in - What is its significance? All the development, the automation, the reduced labour - What for?

STOP!! Not to ponder on the above two questions, but to look around and admire whatever beauty this nature (or even human made things) has to offer. This doesn't mean I am asking you to go on a trip or anything of that sorts. Its just that whenever you are out in the open - breathe and spend 1 minute of your 1,440 minutes of the day to look around. You never know what you might be missing on.

Stop worrying, Start Living.

That's all Folks!
